We had run self-catering cottages at a different location in Reeth since 1965.
Early 1970 we purchased a two acre field, empty except for a barn in the corner. A field we regularly walked passed and said 'one day we will live on that field'. It was a dream come true. We started by building a bungalow for ourselves and extended family.
Then in the 1980's we went on to build three stone terraced holiday cottages to run in our retirement ! We have done all the work ourselves with our own four hands!
The cottages are nearly identical but the middle one has a slightly larger footprint.
Downstairs each one has an entrance porch, kitchen and South facing lounge with doors opening onto a private patio. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. Lounges have comfortable seating and superb views. Facing South they catch all the sun. Ashcroft and Beecroft have open fires and Cedarcroft has a multi burner. Rointe electric radiators have replaced the storage heaters. These are controlled by the guest. Visitors say how warm the cottages are and although not needed, fires can be lit for arrival.
There are smart televisions, radios and books. Games can be borrowed.
Visitors say that the kitchens are better equipped than their own at home. We provide everything from garlic presses to ring pull can openers. Good quality cutlery, all matching crockery, good choice of glasses, stellar pans, insulated stainless steel coffee plungers plus lots more. Everything is all extremely clean and ready to use. There are full sized electric cookers, washing machines, microwaves, fridges and freezers. Dining is in the lounge at Ashcroft , in the kitchen at Cedarcroft, whilst Beechcroft have a choice.
The king size bedrooms look out over the garden to the hills beyond and benefit from a sunny aspect. The twin bedrooms lookout over the cobbles with Fremington edge in the background. All mattress have been renewed recently, together with many of the pillows. There is wardrobe space, a chest of drawers and bedside chairs.
The bathrooms each have a wash hand basin and a toilet, all gleaming. Ashcroft and Beechcroft have a shower over a bath and Cedarcroft has a low lip shower.
Mobile phone coverage is good for EE and Tmobile in Reeth but can be patchy particularly in Arkengarthdale.
Each property has its own Wi-Fi access point providing a fast reliable signal. It has been upgraded to fibre optic.
The signal has never been down, it is provided free but we cannot be responsible for any outage that may occur.
The rental is all inclusive except for excess smokeless fuel which may be purchased from us at cost.
At the moment it is a great help if you provide your own personal towels.
We call the properties our tardis cottages. They may look small from outside photographs but once inside, people are amazed at the space. With such a large number of regular visitors we must be doing something right !
We do not accept pets, smokers or children younger than ten
Reductions are offered to parties of one or two, to returning visitors and stays of 14+days
